I just received a finished design project, and there’s a small error. Of course, some things can be fixed, and others cannot. Every creative workshop I’ve attended has taught us that mistakes happen, and you fix them. One photography workshop in particular assured us that wedding photographers even lose photos. The thought of that is much scarier than a small typo on, say, a brochure, but any mistake is jarring in a profession where accuracy is paramount.

This is my “oh noz” bunny. Hedley was photographed in July 2006 as part of a stock photography project.

In November I traveled to London, came back home with an awful respiratory infection, and then spent a week in South Carolina. I did get a chance to do a couple Christmas shoots, including a kitty shoot for friends of mine. Bowser is a Maine Coon kitty who is addicted to his Cat Dancer and being the prettiest boy in the room.

isn’t he just a handsome boy? We decided to shoot him au naturel as well….

My goal for 2012 is to post at least once per week. It’s a start, at least. My huge backlog of photos needs to exist separately from my hard drive.

“what is it, camera-strap-munching parrot?”

“you know you haven’t uploaded any photos from your Miami trip, right?”

This parrot-on-a-mission walked up to me while I was shooting the squirrel monkeys at Jungle Island in Miami in February. He had swagger.

I began my prolific posting of pictures online around 2002, when I began a LiveJournal blog. Since then, my friends have enjoyed everything from my objet du jour photos to interesting images from my travels. This summer, however, I am backlogged on photos. Coming –hopefully– soon: Miami, Festival Kinetik, Montreal, summer miscellany, North Carolina, Martha’s Vineyard, HONK!, and New Designs at Boston Fashion Week.

I’m sure I’m forgetting something in there somewhere….

HONK! is a festival featuring activist street bands, all with marching-band elements tossed with creative, crazy, colourful characters. Bands from all over the world descend on Davis Square, and play for two days in venues throughout the center.

I had never attended HONK! before, and I’m instantly smitten with the spirit of the festival. Of course, driving and working in Davis Square must be a complete headache for those not attending the festival, but consider Kenmore Square during a Red Sox game. With a lot more colour and symphonic noise. What’s not to love?

I was part of the color guard in my high school marching band. I enjoyed the parades, the cadences, and the general fun involved with performing. Watching the synchronized aspect of your typical marching band give way to improvisation, comedic renditions of show tunes (often involving kazoo), and a musical anarchy of sorts is entertaining, at the very least. Feeling the energy in the crowd makes the experience all the more personal.

It’s currently 5:15ish on Saturday, 1 October. I just drank in four bands, and will venture outside for more. I just had to share all of this with you – bands perform in Davis Square through 9 PM tonight, and tomorrow’s parade will take the bands from Davis Square to Harvard Square, where they will join Octoberfest. Finally, the bands will perform on a HONK! festival closing harbour cruise.

This is so much fun.
